This document describes how to handle aircraft recovery.  It outlines a downed aircraft recovery team creation, maintenance and evacuation.   Aircraft recovery is a mission for all military units and may require extensive coordination with ground and air crews.  It involves the physical act of moving a downed aircraft from one location to another.


This manual is a guide for commanders at all levels.  It can be used for long-term aviation maintenance for all divisions of the United States military.  Self-recovery and dedicated aerial recovery and/or ground recoveries for aviation brigades and others.


Hand and arm signals are taught such as Move Ahead, turn left or right, hover, slow down or speed up, brakes, stop, up hook or down hook, and others.
